The Hegeler Carus Mansion, a National Historic Landmark is awaiting your visit!
Noted Chicago architect William W. Boyington designed the Mansion in 1874 for Edward C. Hegeler, a partner in the Matthiessen Hegeler Zinc Company. After two years of construction, the Second Roman style building stood proudly completed in 1876. It drew prominent minds from around the world and across the nation—leaders in philosophy, science and religion. Now, the Hegeler Carus Foundation, a non-profit agency, owns and operates the Mansion. In 2007, the U.S. Secretary of the Interior awarded the Mansion the designation: National Historic Landmark.
